In 1998, all sides in the Northern Ireland conflict signed up to a peace process. The violence has largely ended, and the country has made huge steps forward economically, socially and politically. For many, the cultural badge of ‘Protestant’ or ‘Catholic’ is no longer relevant. But others have been brought up to perpetuate the division of the past and large sections of the community remain divided.

Over five years, filmmaker Chris Eva recorded Northern Ireland’s growing underground Hip-Hop scene, where sectarian baggage is left behind and the catchphrase is, “It’s not where you’re from – it’s where you’re at.” Through some of the darkest days of the Northern Ireland Troubles, Hip-Hop and its early proponents were peacemakers in a broken community. This is their story.
